You will serve as a WELDER (SHEET METAL WORKER) in the FACILITIY AND INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT of FLTREADCEN EAST.

Duties

You will be responsible for fabrication and assembly of metal plan equipment and structures. You will perform lower level metal fabrication duties as required. You will lay out work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications and oral instructions. You will perform high-pressure brazing and silver soldering on task for which welding is not applicable or practical.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Must have at least fours years of practical experience in the welding trade.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license and the ability to acquire a forklift license.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: A I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: : Lay out work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications; assure all metals are properly cleaned for welding; make all connections and adjustments to place welding equipment in operation; weld high pressure (300 PSI) high temperature (1050F) piping systems used for the testing of aircraft engines and components; perform high-level brazing and silver soldering on tasks when welding is not applicable; determine welding equipment is in proper working condition; weld and assemble tooling to exact tolerances. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. B I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including: Lay out work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications; assure all metals are properly cleaned for welding; make all connections and adjustments to place welding equipment in operation; weld high pressure (300 PSI) high temperature (1050F) piping systems used for the testing of aircraft engines and components; perform high-level brazing and silver soldering on tasks when welding is not applicable; determine welding equipment is in proper working condition; weld and assemble tooling to exact tolerances. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. C I have the ability to perform common tasks including: Lay out work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications; assure all metals are properly cleaned for welding; make all connections and adjustments to place welding equipment in operation; weld high pressure (300 PSI) high temperature (1050F) piping systems used for the testing of aircraft engines and components; perform high-level brazing and silver soldering on tasks when welding is not applicable; determine welding equipment is in proper working condition; weld and assemble tooling to exact tolerances. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
