Duties
In this position you will serve as a Communication Specialist providing advice and assistance in writing and developing communication
materials and vehicles to ensure coordination and communication throughout the office. This position starts at a salary of $94,199.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $122,459.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $122,459.00 (GS-12 Step 10).

In this Communication Specialist position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals. Typical work assignments include:
Assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of internal CTO communication, strategies, materials, and programs that support and promote organizational change and CTO goals
Planning, researching, writing and editing internal and external publications to keep employees informed about current CTO programs, priorities, and initiatives
Serving as the Assistant Web Content Administrator and will assume primary responsibility for the posting of new information in a careful and timely manner
Identifying, recommending, and demonstrating effective methods and techniques for managers and supervisors to use in improving communications with CTO employees in day-today operations
Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Utilizing various information technology systems and software, such as Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Photoshop, and Adobe Pro to maintain communications across ES
Determining the appropriateness of elements for an internal information program for leadership
Developing information materials, including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, etc. that increase effective communication
Developing new information materials aimed at enhancing employees' understanding of the significant program and initiatives of leadership using innovative methods

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
