You will serve as a Painter in the Norfolk Production Branch of FRC SE DET MIDLANT OCEANA. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will examine, evaluate, prepare and apply protective and decorative coating and paint finishes to aircraft components, engine components, ground support equipment (GSE), and other components. You will paint insignias, lettering, and designs on selected components. You will apply specialized and sophisticated coating material to high-speed aircraft and engine components such as lacquers, silicones, sermetel, dry film lubricants, and weather resistant polyurethane. You will perform high finish, critical tolerance painting on aircraft, engine, and GSE components.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Examining, evaluating, preparing and applying protective and decorative coatings and paint finishes to aircraft components, engine components, ground support equipment and other major components; 2) Reading and understanding specifications, sketches, blueprints, technical directives, manuals; 3) Working to close/critical tolerances; and 4) Matching tints and mixing paints and sealants.
