About the Position: This position will be a Physical Security Specialist for the Joint Base Lewis McChord Directorate of Emergency Services Police/Provost Marshall's Division, Physical Security Branch at JBLM, WA.

Duties

Supervise physical security inspections and surveys. Provide inspectors with instructions and information about facilities, which are inspected by specified regulation with different requirements. Monitor all physical security inspection and survey reports to ensure quality of the inspection process and accuracy of deficiency identification Supervise staff set and adjust short/long term priorities. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, assignments and available skills. Develop performance objectives and evaluate work performance of subordinates. Take disciplinary/performance based actions, when warranted. Monitor the key control system, mobility badge system and security exchange badge system to ensure adequacy and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification within two years of employment.
  • This position is Mission Essential.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with developing physical security plans, procedures and inspections; make recommendations on local regulations for physical security; inspect facilities; evaluate and provide feedback to enhance physical security protection of sensitive or classified information, personnel, facilities, installations, or other sensitive materials against criminal activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Security Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationPhysical SecuritySecurityWeb Technology Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
