About the Position: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in the Director of Administration, Patient Administration in El Paso, TX. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Review patient medical records for consistency of patient identification and abstracts requested information from documentation within the medical record. Number documents contained in the medical record prior to copying to assure accountability of each report or written document within the record prior to copying. Prepare medical records for medico-legal and routine medical information release. Prepare and monitor the accurate completion of records assigned to subordinate employees to assure the submission of records for medical-legal purposes are certifiable true copies. Mentors’ other employees in PAD, as well as throughout the hospital, as subject matter expert on how to retrieve medical records now that multiple systems have been retired. Receive subpoenas, court orders, and requests from the Medical Claims Judge Advocate, Staff Judge Advocate (SJA), attorneys, law enforcement agencies, i.e., Criminal Investigation Division, Police Department, and the Defense Investigative Agency. Using office automation equipment, type a variety of written material including memorandums, letters, transmittal documents. Ensures proper format, grammar, spelling and attachments are present.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes researching electronic health systems; utilizing various office automated systems and software; collecting information for coding; retrieving medical records and reports from databases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Records Administration, Hospital Administration, or Public Health Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
