Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. This position will be expected to be in non-pay status between 1 to 3 pay periods per year between early November and mid-December. Duties

In search of a new team member to join the Visitor Engagement Branch of the Interpretation Division at Grand Teton National Park! The Branch is comprised of a collaborative and innovative team of leaders, engaged in telling the stories of this place, while building strong teams of positive, flexible, supportive, and passionate interpreters and following our team values of creativity, connection and kindness. We're looking for a resilient and adaptable individual, who is willing to advocate for their team while supporting the Branch as a whole. Duties include: Serving as the District Interpreter of the Jenny Lake, comprised of 1 GS-7 seasonal lead and approximately 20 seasonal staff, volunteers, interns and others. Serves as a leader within the division and responsible for leading the Jenny Lake team to accomplish established agency and park goals. Responsible for managing District interpretive operations, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of visitor center or other contact station operation, and associated interpretive programming. Additionally, managing the development and implementation of the park-wide public interpretive programs. Assisting the Branch Manager in all aspects of interpretive operations including planning, implementation, and evaluation of visitor center or other contact station operation and associated interpretive programming. Additionally, managing the development and implementation of the park-wide interpretive programs. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with representatives of other organizations to foster effective partnerships and implement the mission and goals of the Park. Providing interpretive training and mentoring to staff, coworkers, volunteers, partners, and concession employees concerning the presentation of interpretive/education programs, the execution and development of interpretive techniques and skills, and the effective operation of facilities. Non-personal service work may include design and writing of interpretive publications, informational posters and signs for closures and warnings, wayside exhibits, social media, webpage development, visitor center exhibits, and short-term off-site exhibits. Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion and can involve extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines outdoors, and carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Some employees may engage in firefighting, search and rescue or other strenuous activities; these employees may be required to lift or carry equipment weighing more than 50 pounds over long distances. Employees who participate in all-risk operations will be required to meet fitness requirements on a continuing basis. Work Environment: The work can include moderate risks or discomforts that require safety precautions (e.g., exposure to extreme temperatures, climates, rough terrain, wild animals, pests, and/or insects). The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, boots, gloves, etc. Some employees may be engaged in all-risk operations and be exposed to high risk and potentially dangerous situations, which require a range of safety and other precautions. Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites. Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country. This position is located in Moose, WY. Services are available in the neighboring town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow. Government housing may be available.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/12/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: coordinating, managing or directing interpretive programs; developing long range program plans; developing educational programs; managing interpretive staff or other similar work. You must include hours per week worked in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly- related field such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified above may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester (or 68 quarter) hours of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education requirement). Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
