About the Position: This position is located with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, Operations Division, Physical Support Br, Nav Section, Motor Vessel Grugett, Memphis, TN 38103. Duty location is Ensley Engineer Yard.

Duties

Performs cleaning, vacuuming, dusting and waxing pilot house, lounge, offices, quarters, and latrines. Operates cleaning and polishing equipment. Receives oral instructions or prepared menus setting for dishes or foods to be prepared for each meal Uses own judgment and knowledge in preparation and cooking of meals Determines quantity of various dishes required to serve crew from menu and instructions as to number of employees to be fed Prepares and cooks meats, vegetables, soups, etc Responsible for sanitary conditions and cleanliness of foods during preparation and cooking Responsible for accomplishment of work in conformity with safety requirements and safe work practices

Qualifications

Work Schedule: During the towing season, typically May through November, this position works a 12 days on/2 days off schedule. This position works a 12-hour shift and may rotate between day and night shifts. During the non-operating season, the crew works day shift only, with the vessel based at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day/8-hour or 4-day/10-hr schedule. During the operating season, the vessel will work in widespread locations in the Mississippi River and Inland waters. This position requires frequent mandatory overtime and weekend work, and occasional shift work. During towing season the work schedule is 12 hour shifts. Working Conditions: The work is performed in interior areas which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. The incumbent is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walking refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, grease, and water.
