The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is an essential labor law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing significant labor laws affecting nearly 150 million workers. Our mission is to protect rights related to minimum wage, overtime, child labor, family and medical leave, employment conditions for migrant workers, lie detector tests, garnishments, prevailing wages on government-funded contracts, labor provisions of several guest worker programs, and more.
Duties
Bilingual - Spanish and English language fluency is REQUIRED. You will be interviewed in both Spanish and English and you may be required to read/write and/or translate documents from Spanish to English and vice versa. Further consideration will not be given if you fail to demonstrate fluency in both English and Spanish.
This is a developmental position. The career ladder progression is GS-07/8/9. In the developmental grade levels, the employee will carry out a variety of assignments as a continuation of their training and development, with duties being performed under closer than normal supervision. As the employee progresses, the assignments will become more difficult and complex in preparation to fully perform the duties at the full performance level (GS-09).
As a Wage and Hour Technician, duties will consist of but is not limited to the following:

- Bilingual - English/Spanish is required.
- Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
- Candidate required to obtain and maintain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

To qualify for Wage and Hour Technician (Bilingual - English/Spanish), your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level, in the Federal Service. The experience must be directly related to the work of the position. Examples of specialized experience are as follows:
Preparing written communication to summarize information;
Responding to and/or resolving customer complaints;
Assisting with interviews or investigations to gather data/information;
Analyzing numerical data to identify discrepancies and/or perform mathematical calculations.
Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a nontemporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service in the executive branch must meet the time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the GS-06 grade level or equivalent in the Federal service), unless excluded per 5 CFR 300.603(b). Time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment (90 days, if applicable), and qualifications requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 10/12/2023, to be eligible for consideration.
Education
This position has no education requirements and there is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. Applicants must possess the required specialized experience.
