Duties

As an Information Technology Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office Southern District of Alabama, you will join a well-respected team, and be responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving four or more information technology specialty areas. Your duties will include (but are not limited to): Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting Resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems Implementing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability Monitoring functionality, security, and integrity of internet services Assist in the planning, development and coordination of litigation support and case management services Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customer hardware and software Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: For each grade level, qualifying experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions as defined below. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service. Examples include: providing IT customer support in troubleshooting; recovering and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; maintaining and controlling equipment inventories; and installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems. Education: One full year of graduate level education in a related field (Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science). Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position; OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). To qualify based on SAA, you must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree (or expect to complete within 9 months) from an accredited institution AND meet the criteria/requirements for SAA which can be found at: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-policies/#url=General-Policies. Combining Education & Experience: A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions as defined below. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Examples include: providing information technology customer support services to include the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems and networked systems; and maintaining internet server and web sites. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management. Combining Education & Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
