This Gardener position is located in Statue Of Liberty National Monument, in the Maintenance Division.
This is an open continuous vacancy announcement. Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the announcement period. Duties
This position is expected to perform duties such as:
Prunes and trims trees and shrubs to obtain the shape, size and desired growth characteristics, and to remove diseased limbs or excess branches.
Transplants trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants by digging proper sized holes and preparing the soil to receive the plants.
Removes the plant taking care not to damage the roots and removes sufficient soil to ensure its continued growth in the new location.
Computes quantities of plants, seeds, and other materials needed for specific areas.
Determines when plants need additional watering and how long they should be watered.
Cuts grass and trims hedges using either hand or power equipment.
Fertilizes, waters, and seeds turf areas, and removes rocks, leaves, trash and debris from landscaped areas.

Screen-out Element: "Ability to do the job of a Gardner without more than normal supervision" For this position, work is defined as: ability to independently plant, cultivate, prune and maintain lawns as well as a variety of flowers, trees, shrubs and ground cover. Determine when shrubs and trees have reached the proper state of growth for timing and pruning; determining the quantities of plants, seeds, fertilizer and other materials needed for specific areas; I have extensive experience in fertilizer and pesticide use and application; Safe use of both hand and power tools and equipment such as farm tractor, commercial walk behind mower, trimmers, edgers and blowers associated with the gardening trade.
