You will serve as a Lead Security Guard in the Security Department of NAVAL WAR COLLEGE.
Duties
You will check and secure buildings, spaces, and areas internal and external to the main facility to protect personnel, property, and facilities.
You will maintain a chronological log of events to give a complete and accurate account of situations and timeframes.
You will perform control desk duties including monitoring alarm systems, closed circuit TVs, telephone and radio networks to support security efforts.
You will verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics, automated records, vehicle decals, verbal questioning, or other means.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification; 2) Enforcing security measures required to protect personnel, materials, and property and advising supervisor on crime prevention matters; 3) Assigning work shifts to subordinate employees; 4) Reviewing subordinate employees' work progress, ensuring objectives are met; and 5) Providing on-the-job training to new employees.

Physical Demands
The duties of this position require occasional arduous physical exertion and or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors and the ability to hear the conversational voice.
Protective clothing must be used when needed. Exposure to high noise levels and encounters with armed and dangerous personnel may occur. Additionally, the work requires regular and recurring moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, and reaching, lifting or carrying items weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Employees engage in such exertions when on patrol, responding to alarms or medical emergencies.
Work Environment
The work is conducted primarily in office building and outside the exterior of the NWC facilities. You may be required to maneuver through rough terrain in poor lighting, in adverse and inclement weather. Works near a broken shoreline (Narragansett Bay) while conducting security roves.
