Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist with the United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Tennessee. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Plans and implements comprehensive public affairs campaigns to enhance understanding of USAO initiatives. Advises management on public information matters. Organizes and coordinates news media interviews with program staff and oversees arrangements with media representatives involving program activities, press conferences and other media events. Plans and directs special events, workshops, seminars, and other meetings with various organizations. Serves as official liaison with staff members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Provides expert advisory services to staff at the district level. Prepares magazine and newspaper articles for publication in national publications and develops articles for district distribution. Serves as the specialist for the district Law Enforcement Coordination Program. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is defined performing the following types of duties: planning, organizing, executing and communicating strategies to carry out public affairs activities and to promote program and/or services of an organization; independently writing, editing, and preparing communications materials (i.e., news releases, fact sheets, brochures, blogs, web pages, etc.) related to crime, law enforcement actions, legislation, trials, and/or court decisions; experience managing and editing daily content and interactions on social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.); interacting with the public and the news media on behalf of an organization; and advising senior level management on communication needs. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
