You will serve as a PARALEGAL SPECIALIST in the Office of Counsel for the Commandant, Western Area Counsel Office of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.
Duties
You will provide litigation support, assembling case files for administrative and court hearings, preparing witness affidavits and declarations, effecting record of service, and assisting in the formulation and response to discovery requests.
You will manage library and office files assets and subscriptions used by counsel, associate counsel, and the incumbent in conducting legal research.
You will research legal references in US Code, case law databases, and secondary resources applying expert knowledge of legal principles, rules of practice and procedures, legal terminology, substantive doctrines, and procedural posture of cases.
You will draft and edit non-legal memorandum, research, and office reports, and correspondence; as well as point papers, information papers, decision papers and presentations.
You will establish standard office procedures to include office budget, supplies, case docketing and managing, administration of data for the litigation management system, and maintaining non-litigation management systems and files.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Conducting research of legal databases (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis) to support administrative and federal litigation; 2) Preparing properly formatted litigation documents for court cases in compliance with established regulations and guidelines; 3) Performing administrative support functions to include utilizing software systems (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, Project, SharePoint) at a legal office to ensure efficient operations; and 4) Interviewing witnesses to obtain necessary information in support of legal cases.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or
- 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or
- LL.M., if related; or
- A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.
