About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Reviews and analyzes accident and incident reports, standing operating procedures, organizational and program documents, and all other information and regulations. Serves as an explosives safety subject matter expert (SME) for the implementation of a comprehensive explosive safety program for all activities within the Division and assigned units. Investigates ammunition and explosive accidents and incidents, and weapon-related accidents and incidents. Provides technical explosives guidance and advice on such matters to the Division staff, Division and Garrison safety directors, subordinate commands, tenant safety managers, and ASCC and assigned unit’s safety professionals.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the Professional Certificate Explosive Safety Level 2 (PCES2) within 12 months or prior to deployment.
  • This position is designated as Emergency Essential.
  • This is a deployable Department of the Army Civilian position. As such, incumbent must pass an Initial and annual medical examination and receive/maintain up-to-date required immunization for the overseas or deployed location.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing and equipment. The duty uniform is standard military issued clothing when deployed or in field conditions. Standard TASO equipment will be issued per local requirements.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver's license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
  • TDY of up to 50% (CONUS/OCONUS) may be required.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. In accordance with AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, the employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to the appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to qualify individually on common tasks selected by the supervisor from the Unit's Mission Essential Task List (METL). Weapons Qualification and NBC Training may be required annually and as necessary to meet expeditionary requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain an official government passport.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • 24 hour on call duty may be required to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Heavy lifting of 50-100 pounds may be required.

This position requires the Professional Certificate Safety Occupation Health Level 1 (PCSOH) and the Professional Certificate Explosives Safety Level 1 (PCESl) certificates.
