Duties
Conducting Facility Maintenance, Grounds Keeping and Trails Maintenance
Monitoring Special Recreation Permits
Collect Visitor Use Data
Operate and Maintain Equipment
Assist Outdoor Recreation Planner with recreation management programs
Carry out resource management or protection work such as evaluation of resource conditions or enforcement of use requirements.
Requirements

- An applicant appointed to this position must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.
- May require a one year probationary period.

GS-5 Park Ranger: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: explaining regulations to visitors; providing information and advice on recreation activities and resources; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; grounds keeping, collecting visitor use data, monitoring special recreation permits (SRPs), ability to operate and maintain gas powered equipment.

Education: You must have completed four years of study above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education.
GS-7 Park Ranger: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: conducting facility maintenance, grounds keeping, evaluating recreation trends and inventories, collecting visitor use data, assisting Outdoor Recreation Planner with SRP administrative duties as well as assistance on other recreation management programs, knowledge and experience of GIS and NEPA.s.

Education: You must have completed one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position OR have graduated from a four-year college with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.
GS-9 Park Ranger: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: work leader; supervising and directing seasonal workers, conducting facility maintenance, knowledge of the BLM SRP and program and regulations, providing assistance to Outdoor Recreation Planner with other recreation management programs, knowledge of NEPA and GIS..

Education: You must have completed two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education directly related to the work of the position OR a Master's or equivalent graduate degree directly related to the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be combined with GS-7 experience to qualify for the GS-9 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.
Work Environment: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.
