About the Position: The U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 404TH Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center (LRC) APG is one of 77 worldwide centers supporting Army and other-than Army installations. The LRC is under the Army Materiel Command and the Army Sustainment Command who have integrated installation logistics under the AMC Materiel Enterprise.

Duties

As a Munitions Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) you will perform a complete range of shipping assignments. Organize and prepare ammunition and explosives for shipment off post. Select from storage or customer turn-in items for shipment. Issue entry control badges to authorized personnel and escorts commercial carriers to and from designated loading point. Provide written certification on the shipping document that the packaging meets regulatory requirements. Operate Fork Lift Trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds. Complete shipping documents with areas such as weight, cube, compatibility and hazardous material data. Determine the manner of loading cargo to achieve areas such as load balance and adequate protection for fragile items. Make and repair supply, shipping, and storage containers of various sizes and shapes from wood and wood substitutes. Place appropriate items such as markings, labels, directions, or handling instructions, including hazardous material warnings, on items. Perform operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, and cleaning and washing vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain within one year a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Hazardous Material Endorsement.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain within one year a valid forklift operator's certification.
  • This position requires that the incumbent must obtain and maintain the appropriate occupational certification IAW AMCR 350-4 and 49 CFR for personnel working in ammunition operations.
  • The employee will be required to enroll in the AR 190-11 AAE Reliability Program, i.e., complete a DA Form 7281, (Command Oriented Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AAE) Security Screening and Evaluation Records).
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Close eye and hand coordination is required when operating power-cutting equipment. Frequently lifts and carries supplies that weigh up to 70 pounds, and may handle items weighing over 70 pounds. Truck driving requires moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of heavier objects while loading cargo with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. It requires moderate physical effort in climbing on tractors to load or tie down cargo. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires, and to make limited emergency repairs. Light to moderate physical effort is required to operate hand and foot controls of forklift and truck. Work Conditions - Work is performed frequently outside regardless of weather conditions. Occasionally works in dirt and grease and frequently works on cement floors. Subject to minor injuries from stacking, palletizing, loading and unloading heavy containers. Danger of eye and hand injuries from running power equipment as well as cuts and bruises from nailing containers together and blocking and bracing supports. Work involves exposure to unusually hazardous conditions on a recurring basis. This exposure exists during the individual handling or while being in the same room where such highly sensitive items such as firing devices, M-80 artillery simulators, detonators, blasting caps, and point detonating fuses are being handled in connection with the unpacking and packing operations. Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads, and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
