This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB/MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily childcare available. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center, (Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.)

Duties

Replace, repair, and maintain a variety of wooden structures and items such as family housing, administrative and office buildings, warehouses, storage sheds, troop housing and related facilities. Perform replacement work on wooden structures where required fit and accuracy are within allowable limits. Prepare surfaces. Apply prime coat of paint for surface protection ensuring surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips and runs. Install picture frames, shelves, counters, plywood ductwork, bulletin boards, cabinets, bookcases, and related features having built-in characteristics. Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on various roof types (rolled, asphalts, dura last, IB and metal).

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent to possess at the time of hire and maintain throughout employment a valid State driver's license.
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain throughout employment a valid government driver's license.
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain an Asbestos removing and disposing certificate within 120 days.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Carpenter Worker (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. Work includes constructing items such as wood boxes, crates, pallets; select lumber, make cuts in accordance with blueprints, drawings or sketches; use hand and power tools such as power saws, nail guns, power sanders, and routers. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent works on ladders and scaffolds which require working in cramped or awkward positions. Considerable standing, stooping, bending and arm movement is required, depending on work assigned, may lift and carry items that weigh about 45 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside and in varied climatic conditions. The incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises, rails from ladders/scaffolds, loud noises, dust, dirt, injury from flying splinters and chips and from lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment. The use of protective devices reduces the danger from cited conditions.
