This position at the Cheyenne VA Healthcare System (CVAHCS) in the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service for the Loveland, CO location. The primary purpose of position is to provide complete power mobility assembly, adjustment, and repair services to include but not limited to electric and manual wheelchairs, scooters, vehicle lifts and other type of durable medical equipment as applicable for outpatients.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Assemble, adjust, Modify and repair power mobility and/or adaptive equipment to meet specific needs of patients with serve disabilities to ensure proper usage. Completes work orders of actions taken and/or replacement parts requiring purchase for appropriate action. Recommend replacement when repairs are not feasible. Provide consultation to clinical staff and others regarding modifications, features, variations, and construction for various power mobility and/or adaptive equipment to achieve goals for patient use. Provide instructions to patients, family members, and staff on proper operations, use and care of power mobility and adaptive equipment. Energizes, adjusts, and tests new power mobility before issuance to user. Perform diagnostic tests to ascertain proper function and safe electrical and mechanical performance. Maintain work areas and tools in a clean and orderly manner and an adequate supply of repair parts. Serves as a consultant to facility clinics and committees (e.g., amputee clinic, wheelchair clinic, major medical equipment committee, equipment committee, etc.) as necessary. May attend training provided by Veteran Affairs or equipment manufacturers via traditional or virtual programs. Participates in performance improvement activities. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Assignments include reading blueprints, schematic, wire diagrams, assembled and non-assembled micro-switches, multi-switches and technical data concerning a wide variety of power mobility and adaptive equipment. Services are provided for all types of users, including those severely handicapped with paraplegia, quadriplegia, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), etc. On the spot emergency repairs may be required until coordination's can be made. Consultation and/or advising clinical teams on technical aspects of wheelchair mechanics and is influential in formulating prescriptions. Participates and/or assists in the evaluations and research studies on new or improved wheelchair and seating devices, components, principles, design, materials. Relied upon exclusively during scheduled clinics regarding the adequacy of a power mobility option to determine the acceptability to purchase. Serve as a liaison and quality insurance point-of contact with local vendors who are needed to assist with repairs off station Responsible for maintaining current certificates as applicable. Works consist of continual stooping, bending, lifting, reaching, walking, and standing for prolonged periods of time and the requirement to lift a maximum of 100 pounds and moving items weighing up to 250 pounds on regular basis. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including but not limited to: computers, multi-function devices, scanners, etc. May be exposed to chemicals, dust, and other hazards related to the use the hand and power tools, electrical equipment, grinders, high pressure washer systems, battery charging equipment, welding, etc. Appropriate safety equipment, e.g. gloves, goggles, and other protective clothing must be utilized, as deemed appropriate, following universal safety precautions to ensure the safety of self and others. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety regulations will be adhered too.
