About the Position: Serves as the Public Affairs Officer and functions as the Chief, Public Affairs Office, responsible for the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of the public affairs program.

Duties

Plan, organize, and direct the district program to disseminate information relating to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers programs, objectives, and functions through news media, organizations, and direct contact with the public. Plan, execute, and evaluate public information, community relations, and command information programs. Plan, direct, and execute national, regional, and local programs to establish an effective two-way communication flow between the agency and its many diverse publics. Oversee development of multi-media approaches to convey public information, to include news releases, feature articles, video scripts, brochures, pamphlets, appearances, posters, social media and exhibits. Supervises a subordinate staff of 5-7 employees.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Writing informational materials such as news releases, fact sheets, brochures, speeches, presentations; AND 2) Developing effective communications with print and broadcast media representatives; AND 3) Developing web and strategic e-communication products. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communication CounselCommunicationsCommunications and MediaCommunications StrategyLeadership Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
