This is a telework, 36-month term-position providing specialized community-based public health initiatives that target and facilitates increased safety planning that promote a reduction in veteran suicides.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU The Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator (CEPC) serves as a content matter expert for community-based suicide prevention and facilitates integration of suicide prevention and education throughout the community by developing and organizing community partners and building coalitions aimed at reducing Veteran suicide at the state and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) level. The incumbent employs public health methodologies, combining community and clinically based interventions for the purpose of reducing veteran suicides. The CEPC facilitates integration of suicide prevention education throughout the community by developing and organizing community partners and coalitions aimed at reducing Veteran suicide at the state and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) level. Duties include but are not limited to: Coalition Development and Management: Develop, facilitate, and strengthen Community-Based Interventions-Suicide Preventions (CBI-SP) at the community and state levels aimed at reducing Veteran suicide, including active coalitions. Coalitions are defined as groups of people, representing diverse organizations or factions within a community, who have come together to work towards common goals. Active coalitions are defined as one that is engaged with a CEPC through at least one of the following: Participating in a coalition formed by the CEPC Participating in discussions with the CEPC about incorporating current national SP goals into their coalition's work Following a strategic plan that incorporates current national SP goals d) Collaborating with the CEPC in the implementation of the current national SP Increasing the capacity of the CEPC's work for the purpose of supporting an existing or creating a new coalition through the provision of resources, funding or key stakeholder relationships Community Education: Collaborates with VA Medical Centers to connect with VA programs and community stakeholders including, which may include, Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations, community business partners, and community members throughout the health care system catchment area to provide education on suicide prevention (SP) related topics and services. Develops materials and training programs, in coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including the Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) regarding suicide prevention throughout VHA and at the facility. Develops and maintains content expertise in SP while promoting and utilizing evidence-based guidelines at all stages of program development and implementation. Disseminates relevant research findings through practice, education, and consultation. Utilizes multimedia campaign materials (e.g., printed articles, brochures, videos) to educate and engage target audiences. FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PARTNERSHIP COORDINATOR Suicide Prevention Program Social Worker, GS-0185-12 Community Engagement: CEPCs complete periodic landscape analyses to help determine areas where efforts will have the most impact. While low and moderate impact activities may be a minimal portion of the CEPC role; CEPC efforts should primarily be focused, first and foremost, on the high impact activities listed below. CEPC activities are designed to enhance and further community engagement. The various levels of impact that CEPCs will consider during their landscape analyses are listed below in the focus areas: High Focus Area. Coalition Building/Meetings - Provides consultation for coalition management. Leads alignment of community coalition goals with VA goals, collaborates with non-VA coalition leaders (remote or in person), attends coalition meetings (general) and coalition subcommittee meetings, manages and attends coalition sponsored events/public meetings, conducts and/or supports coalition evaluation activities (survey distribution, data collection, key informant interviews, etc.); and leads other coalition activities defined in a coalition action plan. Moderate Focus Area. Training - lethal means, mental health apps (Hope Box, PTSD, etc.), Military Culture, Other Gatekeeper Training (Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) or Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)), Postvention, Safety Planning, VA S.A.V.E., Suicide Prevention 101, Suicide Risk Evaluation, Whole Health/Wellness. Low Focus Area. Awareness Table - Veteran Specific Event, Non Veteran Specific Event. Performs other directly related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/16/2023. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Policy. Education. A master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. To verify that a social work degree meets the accreditation standard for a master of social work, access the CSWE website at http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/organizations.aspx. Experience - Must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services. (b) Skill in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds. (c) Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e. acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan. (d) Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals. (e) Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Social work Coordinators must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level (LCSW or equivalent). The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-12. Physical Requirements. No special physical qualifications are required to perform the work. The work requires the ability to move around the office and facility. The work is performed in offices, meeting rooms, and 25% of the time it will be spent transporting veterans.
