About the Position:: This is a Direct Hire Solicitation for a nurse responsible for providing nursing care to assigned patients covering pediatrics to geriatrics medicine, within a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized if it is appropriate to the position being filled and in the best interest of the government.

Duties

Plan, provide, administer, oversee, and document professional patient care in accordance with nursing standards of practice, licensed independent provider (LIP) orders, and established policies and procedures. Obtain patient history, formulate care plans, implement nursing care appropriate to the patient. Set up, operate, and monitor medical equipment; maintain awareness of the patient’s condition and take appropriate action as needed. Perform comprehensive assessments of patient/family members’ learning needs and limitations and communicate plan of care to patients and family members. Ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care including compliance with regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This is an inclement Weather Essential position. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical Health): Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes providing care coordination in behavioral health, referral management, and template management; clinical, administrative, and organizational skills in managing the continuity, access, and provision of care services for complex and defined behavioral health patients. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Experience: Applicants must have a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to patients, monitoring or operating specialized equipment, and administering medications. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.
