About the Position: This position will be working in the Director for Surgery, Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, Division of Gynecology/Oncology, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.
This position will work day shift hours in a private office with a personal computer/phone.
Duties
Planning, programming, administration and management of the research initiatives and ongoing studies.
Participate with research team in establishing and implementing the strategic research program plan.
Determine and plan work to be accomplished by research assistant.
Set priorities and prepare schedules for completion of research and regulatory tasks.
Manage the processing of clinical research protocols from their receipt through committee review and final approval for the Department and
Division.
Provide leadership and technical direction to the staff, interpreting and formulating policy, establishing priorities, assigning duties, and
managing schedules.
Oversee, manage, and build the department of ob/gyns research portfolio within the Walter Reed Department of Research Programs (DRP)-with
particular emphasis on the Gyn Oncology portfolio which has the largest footprint.
Collaborate and support to junior investigators such as medical trainees.
Accomplish all regulatory affairs tasks including submission of continuing reviews, modifications, protocol deviations/adverse event reporting
and submission of closure reports.
Initiate new applications for multi-site studies in collaboration with national oncology collaborative groups, translational research laboratories,
as well as investigator initiated protocols.
Track all patients screened and accrued to studies to insure all informed consent and enrollment paperwork is correctly performed and oversee
research activities to ensure compliance.
Anticipate upcoming research activities/tasks and assist/notify investigators of upcoming research activities involving patients.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for
the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position may require the incumbent to complete a one year supervisory probationary period.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying analytical and evaluative clinical research methods;
interpreting administrative regulations, operating procedures and/or directives; and planning, tracking, and leading operations and clinical
research projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field
which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Clinical Research or Research
Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the
computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of
experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate
semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Preferred but not required: Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) Certification or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP)
Certification.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
