This position, located within the Boise VA Medical Center in Boise, Idaho and is responsible for fabrication of complete dentures, crown and bridge fabrication, fabricating removable partial dentures and completing high qualify repairs. This is an open continuous announcement. A certificate of qualified applicants will be referred every 2 weeks. Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Independently performing all steps necessary for fabrication of complete dentures, which includes boxing and pouring impressions, constructing custom trays and bite blocks, articulates dentures, sets teeth, waxes up, flasks and finishes. Working with the dentist, through the various steps necessary when fabricating more complex dental prostheses. Performing all steps necessary for the fabrication of porcelain fuse to metal and gold crowns and bridges including unusually complex prostheses. Fixed appliances must have proper contours, closed marginal integrity, correct occlusal anatomy, correct occlusal anatomy and interproximal contacts. Constructing removable dies for use in fabricating crowns and bridges, mounts the casts and performs all appropriate steps. Independently fabricating removable partial dentures, accomplishing all steps in a satisfactory manner leading to aesthetically pleasing and functional appliances. Constructing and fabricating special appliances such as obturators, nightguards, and occlusal splints in a satisfactory and timely manner. Performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 12/28/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-08. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-08 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: using dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials; using laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment; using precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers; constructing dental prosthetic appliances; fabricating complex removable and fixed oral-maxillofacial appliance including fixed, semifixed, or removable implant cases, partial and complete dentures, and complex porcelain crowns and fixed bridges. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that is directly related to the work of this position as a Dental Lab Technician. Transcript Required. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the transcript, 18 semester hours will be considered as one full academic year of graduate study. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education beyond the first 18 semester hours that is directly related to the work of this position as a Dental Lab Technician. Transcripts Required . You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Interpersonal SkillsMaterials EngineeringTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work involves periods of sitting and standing. It involves the use of various dental lab machines. Extensive and detailed use of the hands is also required.
