Duties

Coding complicated medical records that are difficult to classify. Auditing medical documentation ensuring coding accuracy. Making a variety of basic statistical computations. Providing coding and documentation training to providers. Performing qualitative analysis of the records to ensure accuracy, internal consistency, and correlation of recorded data.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• This position has a possible Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes translating and coding patient diagnosis/procedures performed with appropriate medical codes; reviewing and analyzing medical records for accurate coding; utilizing medical coding systems such as; Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), Internal Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM) for Outpatient Coding (OP) or Outpatient Professional Services Rounds Coding OPSR) to code medical diagnosis/procedures; and clarifying any medical coding discrepancies found with the provider. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
