About the Position: Lyster Army Health Clinic, Patient Administration Division, Coding department. Duty is Monday to Friday 0730-1615 This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Coding complicated medical records that are difficult to classify. Auditing medical documentation ensuring coding accuracy. Making a variety of basic statistical computations. Providing coding and documentation training to providers. Performing qualitative analysis of the records to ensure accuracy, internal consistency, and correlation of recorded data.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position has a possible Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes translating and coding patient diagnosis/procedures performed with appropriate medical codes; reviewing and analyzing medical records for accurate coding; utilizing medical coding systems such as; Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), Internal Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM) for Outpatient Coding (OP) or Outpatient Professional Services Rounds Coding OPSR) to code medical diagnosis/procedures; and clarifying any medical coding discrepancies found with the provider. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
