This position is located in the Maintenance and Operations, Transportation Section of the Engineering Service in the South Texas Veterans Healthcare System, in Kerrville, TX. The Motor Vehicle Operator delivers clean laundry, picks up soiled laundry, and operates other vehicles as required.
Duties
Operates diesel-powered combination tractor-trailer units meeting minimum specifications;
Makes daily (Monday through Friday) deliveries and return deliveries, adhering to established routes and schedules;
Contacts Laundry Plant Manager for any special instructions prior to departure;
Parks loaded trailer at designated dock at receiving station and disconnects, hooks up tractor to trailer with soiled laundry, inspects tractor and trailer for proper operation, safety, and load security, assists in loading to expedite departure, maintains schedule, and returns soiled load;
Unloading soiled linen carts into linen room, disinfects trailer using electric powered pressure washer and proper solution, parks clean empty trailer at clean shipping dock and parking lot;
Moves loaded and empty trailers for loading purposes as requested;
Services truck and trailer, fills fuel tanks and checks oil, water, air, etc., as soon as soiled load is removed for vehicle to be ready for next delivery;
Performs complete safety inspection of vehicle and reports operational and safety deficiencies immediately for corrective action;
Secures loads, ensures contents are properly tied down or load bars are in place and trailer doors are locked and sealed on both clean and soiled loads before departure;
Maintains daily motor vehicle trip logs and prepares necessary accident report forms and reports accident to supervisor;
Transports equipment and furnishings between facilities when requested;
Assists in loading and unloading as necessary and ensure proper weight distribution and load limit;
Performs emergency and special trips as required;
Performs double runs in one day to provide emergency supplies and equipment;
Drives pickup trucks, forklifts, tractors, etc.;
Performs related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
This position requires a current, valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Do not upload a copy of your license with your application. The ability to perform the duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Good eye, body, and limb coordination is necessary to properly operate vehicles. When assisting in loading and unloading, the employee be lifting heavy bags of linens (40-75 lbs.) and pushing heavily loaded carts of linens onto and off trailers. Position requires extensive stooping, bending, walking, lifting of supplies, equipment, etc., and pushing when performing tasks. The Motor Vehicle Operator may have to change or assist in changing a flat tire. Driving will be accomplished in congested city traffic and highways and the operator must stay alert to avoid accidents. The employee will be exposed to full range of weather conditions both good and bad and must sit for long periods of time when making deliveries.
