The position is located at the West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System. This position serves as a Painter in the Facilities Management Service (FMS). Work involves the performance of brush, roller, and/or spray painting and decorating interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, structures, equipment, and furnishings where appearance as well as surface protection is important.

Duties

The duties required to fulfill this position include, but are not limited to: Performs all duties associated with the application, maintenance and repair of all types of finishes and coverings on plastered walls, metal and wood surfaces, roads, parking lots, furniture and equipment. Installs glass, plastic and lexon-type windows. Fabricates, installs, maintains and repairs signs, both interior and exterior. Applies and maintains graphics. Removal of old paint and varnish finish by dissolving, burning, scraping, sanding, and wire brushing and otherwise prepares surfaces fore repainting. Prepares coating materials (paints, varnishes, shellacs, etc.) by mixing and applying pre-coating agents and solvents. Tints, tones, matches, blends and mixes various additives in prescribed proportions and required consistency. Putties holes and cracks. Refinishes wooden floors. Applies coating materials with brush, roller or spray gun to plaster, wood, metal and concrete surfaces in the interior and exterior of buildings. Applies coating techniques to insure surfaces meet match, texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements. Prepares and sizes walls, cuts trim, wall paper and/or vinyl. Tapes and spackles drywall constructions when required. Removes, cuts to size and replaces broken lights of glass requiring the cleaning out of old putty and re-puttying. Provides guidance and instructions to painter helpers who are assigned to work on specific jobs. Responsible for the proper care, cleaning and storage of brushes, rollers, spray guns, points, ladders, and other material and equipment used at his/her work site. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm or 2:00pm to 10:30pm. Tour subject to change base on the needs of the facility. Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD01565A Physical Requirements: Continuous physical effort is exerted in cleaning and painting surfaces, particularly ceiling and wall areas; erecting, dismantling and working on scaffolds, platforms, and ladders; standing, kneeling, reaching overhead and working in confined areas, as well as climbing, carrying and lifting tools and materials (5 gallon buckets of paint). Occasionally may be required to move furniture, materials, and office equipment away from areas being painted weighting over 40 pounds.
