About the Position: The Hydroelectric Design Center (HDC) is the Corps of Engineers' National Center for Expertise in hydroelectric and large pumping plant engineering services. This position serves as an Office Automation Assistant, responsible for performing office automation and specialized clerical functions in support of the organization assigned within HDC.
Duties
You will utilize word processing software which permits creation, formatting, modification, and electronic printing of a variety of documents.
You will prepare correspondence of a routine nature based upon readily available information or instructions provided by the supervisor.
You will prepare requests for TDY, processes clearance requests, prepares travel vouchers and itineraries, makes reservations, etc.
You will establish and maintain a variety of subject matter files.
You will enter time and attendance for employees as well as making corrections and adjustments to employee charge hours.
Operate a computer using advanced applications which utilize word processing, database manipulation, spreadsheet development, electronic mail, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-05 Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience utilizing a variety of personal computer based software, components and peripherals to prepare correspondence, edit documents, and enter data such as Microsoft Office suite applications and other automated programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-06 Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using software programs to create, edit, and maintain a wide range of documents and reports as well as coordinating training and/or travel for employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Management, Human Resources, Accounting, Public Administration, etc.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
