About the Position: This vacancy is for a Maintenance Worker (MVO), WG-4749-08, in the Operations Division, Mississippi River Project located in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. This position is being filled under the Modified Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) in accordance with P.L. 116-92 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Sec 1109.

Duties

Perform various maintenance worker duties; such as electrical work, masonry, carpentry, painting, mechanical Select maintenance, and minor welding, and other miscellaneous maintenance work. Perform mechanical maintenance such as clean, replace plugs, and general checks on operational status of to maintain various items of equipment and to identify a need for major overhaul or repair. Perform construction, alteration, repair, or modification of items and structures; i.e., frameworks for small buildings; building rough forms for concrete work; laying out constructing, and erecting a variety of wood structures. Carpentry work is also performed to complete remodeling work on building facilities using general instructions or sketchy plans with responsibility of selecting appropriate materials, tools etc., to complete work projects. Make repairs to existing wiring system that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, switches and fixtures, etc., using instructions to indicate type of malfunctions. Perform a variety of basic operational checks, tune ups, etc., on various items of equipment such as gasoline engines, chainsaws, generators, etc. Perform work on pumps, replacing heaters, fuses, etc., as necessary to maintain required operational status. Selects appropriate materials to complete masonry and carpentry work in accordance with work order assignment. Operate various types of trucks for operation and maintenance of the recreation areas; i.e., 1-T pickup, equipment or goose neck trailer-electric brakes in tow; 1-T dump; 1-1/2 T, 4 and 4 winch operated by power takeoff; boom truck, etc.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
• Must possess or obtain within one year of appointment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with appropriate endorsements for equipment in use, and maintain this license as appropriate.
• A medical examination is required. If selected, satisfactory completion of a medical examination is required before assignment to the position.
• This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing, unless currently occupying a Department of Defense TDP.
• Subsequent annual physicals required for the position.

Working Conditions: Depending upon type of duties being performed, works either outside under complete variety of weather conditions typical of the geographic area, or inside normally in heated or semi-heated areas. Is subject to working in cramped quarters, normal cuts and bruises associated with handling a variety of hand tools, and/or more serious injury associated with power tools, mobile equipment, etc.
