This Informatics Registered Nurse position is located in the Associate Director, Patient Care service at the Leeds, MA location. This position is a full time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

Nursing informatics (NI) is the specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and info. science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, wisdom in nursing practice. Nursing informatics facilitates the integration of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making in all roles and settings. This support is accomplished using information structures, information processes, and information technology "The goal of nursing informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals by optimizing information management and communication. These activities include the design and use of informatics solutions and technology to support all areas of nursing and healthcare, including, but not limited to, the direct provision of care, establishing effective administrative systems, managing, and delivering educational experiences, enhancing lifelong learning, and supporting nursing research" (ANA, 2015, p.1)."Informatics solution is a generic term used in this document to describe an application, product, method, tool, workflow change, or other recommendation an informatics nurse makes after identifying and analyzing an issue. An informatics solution may encompass technology and non-technology elements such as developing a database, developing requirements for a new application, advocating the utilization of standardized terminologies, designing informatics curricula, tailoring an application to a particular environment, designing a research study to describe required informatics competencies, describing information flow in a process redesign, creating newly re-engineered processes, or creating a structure for information presentation" (ANA, 2015, p.1). Duties include but are not limited to: Actively involved in continuously evaluating practice at the program/service or above based on established professional, community or regulatory standards to reflect current statutes, rules and regulations, and quality standards such as clinical practice guidelines and The Joint Commission. Participates in the interprofessional design and development of workflow/business processes, seeking opportunities for improvement and applying informatics principles, as appropriate. Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of organizational systems that support the planning process. Supports the integration of clinical, human, financial, and technical resources to enhance and complete the decision-making processes. Participates in systematic peer review as appropriate. Works to create and maintain healthy work environments in local, regional, national, or international communities. Displays the ability to define a clear vision, the associated goals, and a plan to implement and measure progress. Teaches others to succeed by mentoring and other strategies, inspires loyalty through valuing of people as the most precious asset in an organization. Assumes leadership roles within organizations representing nursing informatics professional practice in the healthcare domain. Provides leadership at program /service level or above to evaluate, document, analyze, prioritize, and recognize requirements for the improvement of the EHR and other systems in collaboration with the end-user Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Compressed/Flexible Work Schedule: Not Authorized Telework/Virtual/Remote Work: Not Authorized Relocation Incentive: Authorized Recruitment Incentives: Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the next level or grade level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the higher level. Notifications: This position is a Bargaining Unit position. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will recommend the grade and salary for new appointments based on the candidate's education and experience. For internal selectees being promoted, the board will determine grade and HR will determine step in accordance with policy.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Three to five years experience in nursing informatics. Experience in clinical training and communicating with staff from a variety of education and experience levels Large-scale project and change management experience Solid technical understanding and background in nursing practices, clinical workflows, real-life practice to application scenarios. Solid assessment, clinical, and documentation skills Masters Degree preferred Informatics Nursing Certification Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to ride in GSA-vehicles.
