To be eligible for the Pathways Intern Program, individuals must have been accepted for enrollment or be enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) In a qualifying educational institution on a full or half time basis.
Duties
As a participant in the Pathways Intern Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Selects approaches and methods to be used to complete work assignments from specific, established guidelines.
Receives training in the principles, concepts, work processes and regulations of one or more functional areas of personnel management.
Performs assignments of limited scope and complexity designed to guide the incumbent towards the skills to perform the job.
Student trainee will be assigned to one or more of the functional areas which include, but not limited to: Staffing, Classification, Employee and Labor Relations, Veterans Employment, or Awards.
Shadow HR Assistants or HR Specialist in learning the various functions within the service.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited school
- Must be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half time basis.
- Educational enrollment MUST be on a half-time or full-time basis. Half-time basis is defined by the academic institution that the student is enrolled or accepted into.
Qualifications
Pathways Interns qualify based on their educational achievements.
For the GS-04 grade level: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
For the GS-05 grade level: Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
For the GS-07 grade level: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education or eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision after completing a bachelor's degree.
For the GS-09 grade level: Completion of two full years of graduate level education. One full year of graduate education is the number of hours the school determines to equal one year. If this information is unavailable, 18 semester hours will be used as the standard. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim).
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, qualified applicants must also possess the quality of experience as it relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background, recency of experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the possession of knowledge, skills and abilities, or competencies necessary to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level to be qualified for the position.
