About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency with the Puget Sound Market, Army Medical Center Madigan, Department of Emergency Medicine located at Tacoma, Washington.
Duties
Coordinate all work involving the establishment and maintenance of outpatient and health medical records.
Utilize office automation equipment to provide status reports, memorandums, records tracking etc., using various databases, word processing, local area network systems.
Maintain liaison with all internal and external department of emergency facility to ensure records are received for appointed patients and walk-ins in a timely manner and information is filed properly.
Conduct a semiannual purge and an annual retirement of emergency room files.
Provide technical guidance and assistance to staff on proper management and safeguards of medical records.
Provide technical/staff assistance as to staff and providers within the Emergency Center.
Prepare formal evaluations of employee performance and recommends awards appropriately.
Listen to and resolve issues and complaints from subordinate employees and patients regarding medical records or services provided by section.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period may be required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 an
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing computer/typewriter keyboard in order to input and obtain data; utilizing computer terminal to type routine correspondence providing formatting, spelling, grammar and punctuation to type a variety of material; extracting information for report purposes; scheduling appointments; posting appointment changes.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
In addition to meeting the specialized experience above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below:
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
