About the Position: This is a General Equipment Mechanic XF-11 position with the USACE Little Rock District, Operations Division. The position is with the McClellan Kerr Project Office. Pine Bluff Site Office located in Pine Bluff, AR. This position is exclusively represented by Local 2114, AFGE AFL-CIO.

Duties

Primary general equipment mechanic on a M/V Shorty Baird 1700hp boat. Perform periodic inspections, preventive maintenance, minor overhauls and routine repairs of all floating plant. Work performed by the River Fleet work group consists of towing, snagging, dredging, and normal or emergency maintenance. The incumbent oils, greases, cleans, tests, adjusts, diagnoses failures, and repairs engines and operating machinery on the towboat, crane barge, work barges, and other supporting auxiliary equipment as required. The incumbent performs individual trade or craft tasks and duties such as repairing, adjusting and servicing mechanical operating machinery used by the River Fleet work group.

The work also frequently requires standing, walking, kneeling, and bending. Working Conditions: Majority of work is performed in areas subject to fumes, heat, noise, and cramped conditions. Works around moving machinery where there is danger of cuts, bruises, and burns. Some work is performed outside in all types of weather. There is danger of drowning when working on the navigation system. About 20 percent of the work is performed away from the duty station requiring TDY. The incumbent is subject to call at any time to restore navigation channels, locks and dams to operational status.
