You will serve as a PLUMBER in the Facilities Management & Sustainment Product Line of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will inspect fire pumps and fire pump system components for damage and visually apparent operational deficiencies or impairments. You will review previous test results to determine if there has been a drop in pressure requiring a water supply investigation. You will perform a full flow trip test on dry pipe and pre-action systems. You will identify problems that can arise during or as a result of the testing procedures taking steps to prevent or resolve them. You will record flow volume, pressures and pump speeds in report. You will make repairs by replacing pipe, valves, fittings, sprinkler heads, electrical devices, etc. on faulty or damaged sprinkler systems. You will make repairs to storage tank water heaters, temperature and level sensors.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • May be required to serve as an on-call mechanic on a rotational basis. An on-call duty mechanic is required to carry a cell phone and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.
  • May be designated as ESSENTIAL personnel and required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations, destructive weather, disasters or periods of an increased security threat.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and overhauling fire sprinkler systems in accordance with local regulations and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) instructions; 2) Servicing sprinkler systems including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic devices that detect, indicate, or regulate pressure and temperature; 3) Performing testing and repairs to dry and wet pipe systems; 4) Repairing and replacing valves, gaskets, seals, and gages; 5) Replacing pipe, valves, fittings, sprinkler heads, and electrical devices on faulty or damaged sprinkler systems; 6) Examining parts for wear using tape measures, levels, and pressure gauges).
