The primary purpose of this position is to The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a training instructor.
Duties
Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced levels. Studies course objectives, technical orders, and other materials to prepare for assigned days of instruction.
Develops and/or revises lesson plans and training materials. Serves as the subject matter specialist in the development and/or revision of training materials such as study guides, workbooks, written tests, progress checks, etc.
Monitors and evaluates student progress and performance. Administers and grades measurement devices, provides feedback to students, and maintains security.
Inputs necessary data into the Technical Training Management System (TTMS). Initiates documentation, updates student training records, and schedules resources required for instruction.
Maintains professional and technical expertise. Attends courses, conferences, and briefings to increase knowledge of training processes and procedures.

- Position may require travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY.
- May be required to work on special projects as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1712, Training Instructor series.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-017, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Conduct maintenance and inspection of aircrew personal equipment such as aircrew flyers helmets, oxygen masks, individual survival kits, anti-G garments, anti-exposure garments, Aircrew Chemical Defense equipment, Aircrew Night Vision Goggles, radios, aircraft recovery parachute systems, and flotation equipment, aircraft survival equipment such as personal parachutes, oxygen regulator and connector, multiple life rafts and ejection seat systems.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR a LL.B. or J.D. with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to quality for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of instruction. Knowledge of training aids and devices used in training programs.
Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. Knowledge of computer applications.
Knowledge of maintenance and inspection of aircrew personal equipment such as aircrew flyers helmets, oxygen masks, individual survival kits, anti-G garments, anti-exposure garments, Aircrew Chemical Defense equipment, Aircrew Night Vision Goggles, radios, aircraft recovery parachute systems, and flotation equipment.
Knowledge of maintenance and inspection of aircraft survival equipment such as personal parachutes, oxygen regulator and connector, multiple life rafts and ejection seat system
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and to analyze problems and develop appropriate solutions. And skill in written and oral communication.
Knowledge of sewing machine maintenance, usage and sewing applications/fabrication.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
