This position serves as a Pipefitter in the Construction Section within the Facilities Management Service Line.

Duties

Installing and maintaining complete types of steam distribution and return systems. Maintain, rebuild, and install condensate pumps and electrical motors. Use sound judgement in various types of piping and equipment installation to ensure professional results across the entire health care facility. Installs and maintains complete plumbing systems including storm and sanitary sewers, septic systems and various water, oxygen, air, gas, medical gas, nitrous oxide, fire lines, vacuum and vent systems. Performs maintenance, major and minor, of limited electrical systems. Performs mechanical repairs (e.g., valves, gears, etc.) to various types of equipment that is assigned to the Plumbing and Mechanical Shop. Performs major and minor repairs to all pumps; repacking and/or repairing of all valves and expansion joints, repairs to high- and low-pressure steam traps, air vents, booster heaters, hot water generators and other steam operated equipment. Repairs and maintains pressurized domestic water pump station system consisting of 500,000-gallon tank, water pumps, electrical controls, pressure controls, water level controls, emergency diesel pump, and all related equipment. Installs and serves all types of flush valves, mixing valves, water meters, demineralized water systems. Interpret work orders, specifications, and blueprints. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the Agency. Position Description Title/PD#: Pipefitter/PD03831-O Physical Requirements: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may work from ladders and scaffolding. When operating equipment, the worker may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs, and by the vibration and jerking of the equipment. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and may occasionally exceed 50 pounds. Incumbent must have normal or corrected to normal hearing and vision without any color blindness. Occasional strenuous physical demands are presenting certain functions. Normal duties require considerable walking, stair climbing, ladder climbing, ladder climbing, standing, stooping bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, working off high ladders and scaffolds and wearing respirators. Heavy lifting no greater than 70 lbs. and strenuous exertion are also occasional necessary. standing is always mentally alert to guard against hazard to self, other employees and patients. Incumbent makes repairs and installation from ladders and scaffolding where repairs are hard to get to and in out-o-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending and crawling.
