About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Check flames for correct color and shape to make adjustments for proper combustion. Initiate corrective actions to maintain adequate steam as required. Check for proper operation of chemical treatment pumps. Regulate water levels to maintain appropriate steam pressure. Use schematics to perform maintenance on boiler plant equipment. Shutdown unsafe boiler(s) to avoid endangering area personnel. Recognize dangerous conditions in boilers to prevent equipment damage.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position has been designated as a Mission Essential Position.
• This position has a lifting requirement to lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• This position requires rotating shift work.
• Must be able to obtain a Fourth Class National Institute License for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers as required by AR 420-1.
• Must be able to obtain a Forklift Operator's License within 6 months of entering position.
• This position may require travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes.
• Obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
• Must be able to obtain a Driver's License within 6 months of entering position.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position requires personnel to wear protective clothing and equipment.
• Must be able to pass a Pre-employment and annual physical examination thereafter.

I can perform duties such as maintaining efficient combustion levels, conducting periodic checks, or inspecting for operating performance. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions- Works indoors and occasionally works outside subject to prevailing weather conditions. Subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes in the work area. Subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, hot water, steam, and contact with piping and boilers. In addition, they work on catwalks and ladders. Wears protective clothing and equipment as required.
