As the Industrial Hygiene Officer and Alternate Radiation Protection Officer, you are responsible for the management of Kennedy Space Center's Industrial Hygiene Program and activities. Managing a wide range of chemical and physical hazards associated with spacecraft and payload processing and launch operations, and overseeing industrial hygiene services.
Duties
Serve as the Industrial Hygiene Officer (IHO). Maintain oversight of Federal regulatory and Agency-level requirements, develop, implement, and maintain
Center-level Industrial Hygiene programs to ensure compliance and provide a safe workplace.
Coordinate development, selection, and oversight of Government-provided industrial hygiene services. As a consultant to the Office of Procurement, ensure industrial hygiene policy requirements are captured in contractor Performance Work Statements.
Serves on Center and Agency groups requiring advice in topical areas of the Industrial Hygiene Program. Develops training material for OSHA-required training
classes and serves as the primary representative on technical training panel.
Supports ground processing and launch/landing contingencies involving propellants. Participate in preoperational reviews of facilities and systems to assure the incorporation of controls for processes involving hazardous chemical and physical agents.
Assist in the oversight of ionizing and nonionizing radiation sources. Supports Radiation Protection Program activities and special activities such as major
radiological source launches.
Oversee industrial hygiene investigations and assessments of workplace health hazards. Advise on industrial health hazards and approaches to their control, control measures, and design features to minimize or eliminate exposure to health hazards.
Support Safety and Mission Assurance with safety inspections, payload processing and launch operations, Voluntary Protection Program support, construction safety, and other safety and health matters requiring industrial hygiene participation.
Coordinate with the Engineering and the Exploration Research and Technology Programs on the management of safety and health hazards in laboratories and
shops.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level.
Serving as a subject matter expert applying concepts, principles, and practices of industrial hygiene to resolve unusual problems;
Developing approaches for mitigations of a variety of occupational health hazards;
Applying Federal and State regulations and requirements associated with hazardous chemical and physical agent protection.

Education
You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.
OR
Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major in engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.

Have a Certification from the
American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
