VA offers comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The Miami VA Healthcare System is looking for Registered Nurse (s) to work in Nursing Service - Multiple Specialties to include Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC), Medical Surgery/Telemetry (MED SURG), Mental Health (MH), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), and Surgery (Operating Room) to provide care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury. The Registered Nurse (RN) is under the supervision of a Nurse Manager or immediate supervisor. The positions can be located in multiple Miami VA Healthcare locations to include: 1201 Northwest 16th St, Miami, FL; 7369 Sheridan St. #102, Hollywood, FL; 950 N. Krome Avenue, Suite 401, Homestead, FL; 7369 Sheridan St # 102, Hollywood, FL 33024; or 9800 W. Commercial Blvd, Sunrise, FL. The RN delivers patient-family-centered care in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based quality care, safety, and service while ensuring the appropriate care. Demonstrates the following core competencies and behaviors: veteran-centric care, nursing process, technical skills, communication, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, flexibility, organizational skills, accountability, and leadership. Duties may include but are not limited to: Ambulatory Care Deliver patient-family-centered care utilizing evidence-based quality, safety, and veteran-centric care standards. Prepare patients for, and assist with examination, procedure and treatment. Coordinate care across the continuum. Critical Care Monitor and evaluates seriously ill patients. Demonstrate sound decision-making based on patient conditions such as vital signs, patient presentation, and assessments such as monitoring patient with Pulmonary Artery Catheter, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, and Ventilator support. GEC Responsible for providing total comprehensive nursing to patients and their family through the implementation of a plan of care. Direct, monitor, and evaluate nursing care utilizing established policies/procedures. MED SURG Responsible for managing the day to day care of acutely ill adult patients requiring cardiac monitoring, frequent assessments, and interventions. Cares for patients experiencing general medical conditions or surgical procedures, which require assessments related to specific conditions. Administer medication. Monitoring and interpretation of telemetry MH Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of the patient. Participate in problem-solving activities of the health care team. SCI Provide direct care services to a culturally diverse group of patients with medical/surgical and rehabilitation needs. Provide nursing care for patients with SCI disorders. Patient population includes Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS) Surgery -OR Responsible for the planning, execution, delivering, and evaluating both direct and indirect patient care of surgical patients in the operating room ensuring that proper techniques are utilized as per OR policy and AORN standards. Serves as the patient's advocate throughout the intraoperative experience, with responsibility for managing and implementing activities outside the sterile field. Activities are directed toward assuring patient safety and achieving desired patient outcomes. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Minimum of 2 years (in the area applied) Current BLS/ACLS certification Additional Preferred Experience per Specialty Ambulatory Care RN clinical outpatient or ambulatory care experience Telephone triage experience Experience in Ambulatory Care Setting Specialty Clinic-1 year (ex. Allergy, Electrophysiology, Gynecology, Dermatology, or Oncology) depending on the specialty of the position. Critical Care 2-3 years of RN in critical care experience Surgical intensive care experience including open-heart surgery EKG interpretation and interventions Successful completion and certificate of critical care course Geriatrics and Extended Care Rehab experience 2-3 years Med/SURG Rehab certification Medical Surgery/Telemetry 2 years of clinical nursing practice on a medical surgical unit Telemetry training Mental Health Certification in an area of expertise 2-3 years experience in nursing Mental/Behavioral Health Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) BSN preferred SCI/Rehab experience preferred Spinal cord injury/disorder interest or experience in rehabilitation nursing preferred CRRN (Rehabilitation) certification preferred Surgical-OR 2 years recent OR experience for complex procedures (General Laparoscopy, vascular, urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Robotic) CNOR Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, ken hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued driving, walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. This position may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. This position must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles.
