Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing litigation support. Typical work assignments will include:
Performs routine litigation support tasks necessary to process common electronically stored information (e.g., PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, emails, etc.) and prepare it for review or production by the litigation team.
Maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials, adhering to office tracking protocols, such as by completing standardized inventory or tracking forms.
Uses software applications to extract electronic case materials from storage devices or download electronic case materials from secure file transfer sites.
Organizes and prepares electronic files for processing. Uses specialized software applications to perform basic processing of common electronic files. Performs quality control on processed files and addresses any identified issues.
Uses basic and complex document review database functions such as coding, tagging, advanced searching, sorting, filtering, and analytics (e.g., threading, stemming), and advises litigation teams on these functions' use.
Generates electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images with redactions and searchable text) that comply with production specifications and deadlines, including productions from document review databases.
Each grade has 10 step rates and GS employees are usually hired at step one of the applicable GS grade level at which the applicant qualified. The salary range for a GS-7 in San Francisco, California is $57,778 - $75,111 (step 1 through step 10). The salary range for a GS-9 in San Francisco, California is $70,674 - $91,873 (step 1 through step 10). The salary range for a GS-11 in San Francisco, California is $85,508 - $111,157 (step 1 through step 10).

Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications
GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.
Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: providing automated litigation assistance by preparing discovery productions, including scanning and coding documents and creating DVDs; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; maintaining production logs by adhering to office protocol; and providing technical support such as duplicating documents and marking exhibits.
Education: One full year of graduate education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Law) OR completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree AND meet one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for all completed undergraduate course work or for all courses completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (2) a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all courses in the major field of study, or those courses in a major completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (3) ranking in the upper one-third of a college, university, or major subdivision or (4) membership in a national scholastic honor society.
Combining Education and Experience: Combination of experience and graduate level education that when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the required qualifications. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal 100 percent to qualify.
GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.
Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: using software applications and other resources to organize, review, analyze, extract and compile case information for litigation needs; scanning, indexing, and controlling of documents into a database; assist in the preparation of computerized trial presentation programs; assist with diagnosing and resolving litigation support computer system problems; maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials.
Education: Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields or must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Law).
Combining Education and Experience: I have a combination of experience and graduate level education that when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the required qualifications. Only graduate level education in excess of the first full year can be used in this calculation. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate level hours that exceed 18 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study). To calculate your percentage of specialized experience, divide the total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%.
GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level.
Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: participating in trial preparation and presentations; working with attorneys and legal support staff to recommend effective strategy to meet litigation needs; identifying and utilizing software packages such as databases; spreadsheets and word processing applications to present evidence; managing a variety of computer hardware for trial use; customizing databases and programs to meet individual user needs; preparing demonstrative exhibits required for litigation; organizing and managing case specific discovery.
Education: Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Law): Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related.
Combining Education and Experience: I have a combination of experience and graduate level education that when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the required qualifications. Only graduate level education in excess of the first two years can be used in this calculation. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate level hours that exceed 36 semester hours (or your school's definition of two years of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study).
