Duties
Responsible for conducting both internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinics, parking lots, and grounds.
Execution duties of the physical security, crime prevention and anti-terrorism programs as directed by the Hospital Provost Marshal/Security Officer.
Conduct and documents patrols of all Mission Essential or Vulnerable Area (MEVA) and High-Risk Targets (HRT) identified by the Hospital Commander.
Perform duties as a first responder during emergencies, protecting and ensuring life, health, and safety.
Maintain an activities journal to document shift activity.
Actively observe, detect, stop, detain and question possible suspicious individuals in the vicinity of assigned patrol.
Ensure the safety and security of all staff, patients, visitors, and government owned property within the facility.
Perform access control duties at access control points (ACP)/gates, parking, and traffic control during periods of congestion, limited access, construction, and/or VIP visits.
Maintain an activity report to document shift activity. Under emergency situations, immediately takes appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of all staff, patients, visitors, facilities, and government owned property.

Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A secret clearance and associated background investigation will be required.
- This position may require on call work, overtime, holidays and weekends work schedule.
- Incumbent musT undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability. Standards for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56, “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Employee and prospective employee of this position are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must wear the prescribed DASG uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- In accordance with AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R, Condition of Employment, must be assigned for mandatory drug testing.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled, may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Employee must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- This position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Occasional travel may be required up to 5%
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience in two or more of the following areas: experience controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians into military installations; experience using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into military installations; experience transcribing data using special codes IAW federal and state regulations (e.g. style codes, manufacturer's codes, wanted or missing persons, etc); and experience dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible for access.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
