This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Area, Southern Insect Management Research Unit, in Stoneville, MS.
In this position you will support the unit by providing clerical support to the office, receiving incoming telephone calls and visitors, preparing standard office forms, and maintaining a variety of office records and files.
Duties
Assists with establishing and maintaining a variety of office records and files.
Receives, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence to office staff.
Answers inquiries related to general policy, programs, and activities of the office.
Prepares travel authorizations and vouchers and other standard office forms.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
GS-4:
Specialized Experience: Qualifying experience for GS-04 includes one (1) year of general experience. For this position, general experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies to perform the duties of the position. General experience may be obtained in an office environment by performing the following types of tasks: using office automation equipment or software to create and edit documents for distribution to office personnel; maintaining office files; and answering telephone calls or assisting customers or clients.
OR
Education: Successful completion of 2 full years of education above the high school level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
GS-5:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience purchasing supplies for an office; using automation equipment or software to create edit documents for distribution to office personnel; and maintaining office files.
OR
Education: Successful completion of 4 full years of education above the high school level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
