ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Health Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Southwest Region, Phoenix Area - Outpatient Nursing Services, Colorado River Service Unit, located in Parker, Arizona. Position is supervised by the Chief Nurse Executive.
Duties
Major Duties:
Provides direction, leadership, guidance, professionalism, supervision and performance evaluations for the Emergency, Inpatient Department, Outpatient and Public Health Nursing Departments (nurse's, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants and medical support assistant).
Responsible for provision of Nursing Care on the unit, including compliance with standards of care, patient safety, and compliance with other applicable standards.
Planning work for the unit; including work schedules, adjusting work schedules as needed to meet patient care needs. Evaluates daily operations and service provided to assure efficient use of resources, including patient flow, work flow and productivity.
Conducts monthly meetings with unit staff, assuring communication for hospital related initiatives are met and ensures that required trainings are completed for Department.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs , Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination . In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, GS-0610-13:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: experience overseeing a nursing division in an operating health care facility; management ability to delegate authority; formulating and implementing nursing services in accordance with existing requirements, methods and procedures; conducting meetings and conferences with subordinate supervisors and staff; providing leadership and direction to nursing programs ensuring proper health care management, evidence based practice, safe and quality patient care; establishing and maintaining compliance with various regulatory accreditations, professional agencies, administrative policies and procedures, laws, regulations, standards and directives that are applicable to the organization; establishing and maintain positive partnerships with community, tribal, and educational programs and institutions; and ensuring accountability to the governing board.
