Duties
Our mission is to enforce vigorously the federal criminal laws of the United States, to effectively represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, and to meet fully the public safety needs of the community through an efficient, well-coordinated law enforcement effort.
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky has a staff of approximately 45 attorneys and 45 support personnel. The main office is located in Lexington, with staffed branch offices in Ft. Mitchell and London, Kentucky. Unstaffed offices are located in Ashland, Frankfort, and Pikeville, Kentucky. The United States Attorney's Office seeks to maintain the highest standards of excellence in the enforcement of federal laws and the representation of the United States.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of legal support and litigation technology activities. Typical work assignments will include:
Supports civil and criminal litigation teams by serving as a subject matter expert on electronic discovery litigation support and by performing a variety of complex litigation support tasks necessary to prepare and manage voluminous electronic discovery and evidence.
Advises litigation teams on strategies and appropriate software tools for effectively organizing, storing, preserving, collecting, processing, reviewing, producing, and presenting electronic case materials.
Develops and supports the office's eLitigation program, including by providing technical and strategic advice to office management on litigation technology applications and litigation support best practices. Provides training, guidance, and technical assistance to other litigation support staff.
Uses specialized software applications to perform processing on complex or voluminous electronically stored information for purposes of discovery. Consults with litigation teams to understand case needs and technical requirements to develop a processing plan that best suits those needs.
Designs, builds, and maintains document review databases, including by creating, modifying, importing, and exporting load files. Generates electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images and searchable text or industry standard load files) that comply with court orders and meet the technical needs of litigation teams.
Provides technical assistance to litigation teams presenting or filing electronic evidence or exhibits in legal proceedings.
Provides customer support services, including troubleshooting, user assistance, and training, to litigation teams relating to their use of litigation support software applications.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications
GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as working in a legal environment performing the following duties: providing technical advice to litigation teams and legal support staff on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities; analyzing litigation support requirements to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs; using automated litigation support technology (such as Everlaw, LAW Pre-Discovery, Nuix, iPRO Eclipse, and Relativity) to process voluminous electronic discovery, load processed discovery into databases, and generate electronic discovery productions in support of complex investigations and trials; and evaluating new developments in legal technology, including software used to process, review, produce, or present electronic discovery or evidence.
