The mission of the Office of Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE) is to help reduce safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) risks at NIST by planning, developing and maintaining, supporting the implementation of, overseeing compliance with, and continually improving NIST's SH&E programs. In doing so, OSHE will enable NIST to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently while protecting the worker, the public, and the environment and complying with applicable laws and regulations.
Duties
Plans, schedules, and conducts workplace safety inspections, identify, and analyze findings, and develop recommendations to mitigate or resolve safety and regulatory findings.
Documents safety and health issues, findings, and violations.
Adapts analytical techniques and evaluation criteria for the measurement and improvement of program effectiveness.
Uses a variety codes, regulations and standards to analyze, interpret and report on compliance status, safety data analysis findings in safety program area.
Develops, organizes, and implements functional short- and long-range project plans.
Plans, executes, and reports on original or ongoing analyses, evaluations, or investigations within safety program area.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 (ZA-II at NIST) level.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health inspections and hazard assessments in compliance with federal regulations and industry best practices
Experience developing and implementing safety protocols and procedures, as well as persuading and influencing others to support these safety measures
Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in safety programs
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
