Duties

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Pathways Program provides developmental experiences in the Office of Management and Budget, Executive Office of the President and its component offices, intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals with qualifying educational eligibilities. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with opportunities that may lead to a career in the Federal Government.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
  • Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see http://www.sss.gov/).
  • The incumbent is required to sign a Condition of Employment form (for certain positions identified as critical under the drug testing program) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Pathways Internship Program, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria and the qualification requirements corresponding to the grade level at which they wish to be considered by the closing date of the announcement: PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled as a degree seeking student in an accredited vocational or technical institution, 2- or 4- year college/university or graduate/professional school; taking a minimum half-time load of courses; possessing and maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0; and pursuing any of the following academic degrees: Vocational/Technical Certificate (two-year program) Associate's Degree Baccalaureate Degree Graduate Degree (Master's program) Professional Degree (Doctoral program) NOTE: Students MUST continue education in order to be eligible for this intern appointment. Official transcripts are required upon selection and prior to appointment. Failure to submit the documentation will result in disqualification from further consideration. In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program, you must also meet the followings qualification requirements by the closing date in order to qualify for the Student Trainee (Economist), 0199. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in a preferred academic major that includes at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in Federal service or the private sector, that demonstrates the following areas: (1) Applying economic principles, and practices, market and non-market values, and the analysis and reporting of economic data; (2) supporting an environment by communicating in oral and written forms; AND (3) Using computer software applications, such as programming and data analysis. OR Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in Federal service or the private sector, that demonstrates the following areas: (1) Applying economic policy, principles, and practices, market and non-market values, and the analysis and reporting of economic data; (2) Organizing work and setting realistic goals to complete assignments in a timely manner; (3) Identifying and analyzing problems to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations; AND (4) Using computers and computer software applications, such as programming and data analysis. OR Education: Successfully completed one (1) full academic year of graduate level education (from an accredited college or university. Note: Transcripts must be submitted at time of application to support your claim. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university AND meet Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) based on ONE of the following: Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, based on completed courses. -OR- Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. (Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9.) -OR- Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. Note: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted to support your claim.
