Duties

You will select the optimum route for an ocean voyage by selecting the course that avoids meteorological and sea states hazards. You will maintain short range (1-3 day) wind, sea and weather forecasts in order to evaluate and/or divert a ship's route when necessary. You will conduct post-route evaluation and analysis in conjunction with the Quality Control personnel to identify improvements and resolve issues. You will assist in the training of naval and civilian personnel assigned to METOC Services Division. You will provide frequent briefings and advice to a variety of personnel and major staffs regarding tropical cyclone threats, climatological planning and meteorological outlooks that affect major fleet exercises and operations.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Developing short and medium range marine forecasts for locations with large weather extremes and limited observational data using operational marine/aviation forecasting techniques and climatological data. *Working with wave models and sensors to analyze or approve oceanic sea height analysis and forecasting. *Operating microcomputer systems and word processing equipment to access meteorological/oceanographic data and releasing naval messages to civilian and military personnel. *Analyzing ship and station weather observations and evaluating meteorological systems for conformity with existing forecast models. *Rapidly reconciling multiple weather systems with available reports and satellite imagery to develop accurate and precise ship routing recommendations.
