You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN in the Bureau Medicine and Surgery Military Treatment Facility (BUMED MTF) of NMRTC PEARL HARBOR HI. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. GS-05 $39,207-50,974 GS-06 $43,706- 56,814

Duties

You will provide written documentation of sampling for inclusion in command-level survey reports. You will record all measurements/sampling data as required for establishing a historical record of occupational exposure, under the direction of the cognizant IH. You will research sampling methods when dealing with new materials or processes. You will document workplace conditions and any apparent violations of occupational safety and health standards seen while sampling. You will write calibration procedures, establish maintenance/repair formats, maintain sampling and equipment databases, analyze equipment use and service life and compiling, and maintain equipment performance records.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Completing workplace monitoring in support of Exposure Monitoring Plans for multiple industrial commands/organizations across geographically dispersed areas. Conducting complete workplace monitoring using various IH monitoring equipment of work operations involving potentially hazardous occupational physical and chemical stressors under the direction of an Industrial Hygienist. Managing IH monitoring equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair programs within an industrial hygiene program office. Preparing instructional outlines and providing technical instruction to IH professionals, technicians, and workplace monitors on the use of new technically advanced Industrial Hygiene equipment. Utilizing MS Office Suite software such as Words, Excel, and/or Access. Utilizing an electronic datawarehouse application such as the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) to enter occupational exposure monitoring data.) Assisting in the management of IH monitoring equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair programs within an industrial hygiene program office. Utilizing MS Office Suite software such as Words, Excel, and/or Access and entering occupational exposure monitoring data into the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System Industrial Hygiene DOEHRS-IH.) SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

For GS-06 - Successful completion of: One half full year (9 Semester hours) of graduate level education directly related to the position. (If using education to qualify copy of transcript must be attached) - Failure to submit this information WILL result in an ineligible rating.

For GS-05 - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (If using education to qualify copy of transcript must be attached) - Failure to submit this information WILL result in an ineligible rating.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
