Duties

Collect rangeland monitoring data to help inform and support management actions on the rangelands. Conduct grazing permit compliance inspections to ensure livestock operators are complying with the terms and conditions of their grazing permits. Conduct maintenance actions on fences and other range improvement projects. Manage the Range program's electronic database. Assist Range Management Specialists with the general administration of grazing on public lands. This could include processing grazing applications, issuing bills, transferring grazing permits, etc.

Requirements

Qualifications

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above) In addition to the experience requirements described in the group coverage standard, seasonal experience may also be creditable. A season of experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous employment on a seasonal basis. Shorter periods may be combined to make a season, provided a total of at least 3 months' experience is shown. For any period where the work exceeded 3 months; the excess work is credited towards an additional season of experience. One season of experience is qualifying for GS-2; 2 seasons of experience qualify for GS-3; and 4 seasons of experience qualify for GS-4. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing. Range research activities. Work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range. Range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work. OR Education and Training: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-4. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. FOR GS-05: In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Experience navigating the back country independently. Experience with fence maintenance. Experience with collecting rangeland monitoring data. FOR GS-06: In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Experience navigating the back country independently. Experience with fence maintenance. Experience with collecting rangeland monitoring data. Experience training crews in the collection of routine rangeland monitoring activities. FOR GS-07: In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Experience navigating the back country independently. Experience with fence maintenance. Experience with collecting rangeland monitoring data. Experience training crews in the collection of routine rangeland monitoring activities. Experience planning and conducting range inventory surveys for rangeland inventory. Experience explaining the results of range studies and making management recommendations based on preliminary interpretation of resource monitoring data. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending, and lifting. Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air-conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The incumbent carefully adheres to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
