The Engineering Service is seeking tone full-time Pipefitter at the VA Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
THE POSITION TOUR OF DUTY IS, 2:30 pm to 11:00pm
Duties
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
Installs, maintains and repairs steam lines, return lines, traps, unit heaters, hot water tanks, thermostatic valves, pipe covering, condensate pumps, pressure reducing valves, safety valves, chemical pumps, and other parts of a complete steam system.
Installs plumbing system parts that carry water, gas, air, storm, and sanitary sewerages. Reads and interprets specifications, blueprints, schematics, building plans, and equipment manuals to install equipment and utilities.
Performs plumbing, welding. and pipefitting work. Applies a variety of welding and pipefitting methods on plumbing and steam systems.
Installs traps, lavatories, commodes, cast iron, plastic, glass, steel, clay, and/or fiber pipe, PVC, copper tubing, pipe and fittings, and other type of plumbing equipment.
Use knowledge of building to troubleshoot water distribution system cross-connects. Troubleshoots problems to determine source of leaks.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm OR 3:00pm to 11:30pmPosition Description Title/PD#: Pipefitter/PD09261APhysical Requirements: This position requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling moderately heavy (up to 50 pounds), and occasionally heavier weights with assistance. Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, motorized high-lift, etc. as well as other hard to reach places, and in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
