Duties

In this Supervisory Paralegal Specialist (Asset Forfeiture Officer) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in initiating and adjudicating of civil liabilities originating from the seizures, penalties, immigration carrier fines, and claims for liquidated damages initiated under the authority of the United States Code (USC), as well as other laws and regulations enforced by CBP. This position starts at a salary of $116,393.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $151,308.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $151,308.00(GS-14 Step 10). Typical work assignments include: Performing and directing administrative and operational work of the Asset Forfeiture Program. Receiving, examining, and evaluating petitions filed by individuals, attorneys, corporations, or other legal entities seeking relief from seizures, penalties, fines, and liquidated damages. Reviewing and making decisions as to the acceptability of evidence in fraud cases, significant seizure cases, and in any case of unusual circumstances. and complexity. Preparing answers to congressional inquiries and those received from the news media and foreign governments relating to the status of specific cases.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing technical training to all employees in their location, relative to the implementation of new and revised laws, regulations, and programs relevant to the asset forfeiture process. Maintaining the official system of records for all seized property in the service geographic area. Providing proper legal notice, perfecting forfeiture, storage, and maintenance, and determines ultimate disposition of property. Assigning and reviewing work products, and accepts, amends or rejects work. Giving advice, counsel, and instruction to individual employees and members of the trade community. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/29/2023.
